Build it on purpose, not by accident.
Because of my Faith, I help business owners build on purpose: the plan, the people, the sales, the systems, and the margin, in service of a purpose bigger than the business.

Meet your Christian business coach

Rodney Penner spent twenty-four years in the trades, manufacturing, framing, steel, closing higher than the salesmen swore was possible and failing with people until he learned them.
He wrote the book on building a business on purpose, and as your Christian business coach he works it with you, chapter by chapter, in your real numbers and your real crew.
I am a Christian business coach. Because of my Faith, I believe people hold the highest value. Everything I build with you is for one end: a business that can give.
You do not have to share my Faith to work with me.
Read the whole mission →If you built it by accident, you can feel it.
None of that means you are bad at this. You were never taught to build the business itself. That is the work we do together.
A full pipeline can still be all maybes.A quote goes out and nobody chases it.
Not because the job was wrong, because nobody owns the follow-up, so it sits in an inbox until it is too old to bother.
Shops drowning in the boring stuff, not the skilled stuff.A roofing office quoting from memory.
A shop where the same job gets typed into three systems. An inbox where leads go quiet because nobody got back to them fast enough.
The spreadsheet that runs the business, if only one person understood it.A quoting sheet only one person can update.
A scheduling board that lives in someone's head. A process real enough to run the business but never written down anywhere software could read.
Get the free business diagnostic first
Ten questions, and you get back an honest read on where growth is leaking. Understanding your business is free; the fix is the engagement.
Identity. Culture. Strategy.
A real destination on paper, and the order we work in: identity, then culture, then strategy.
Org structure on purpose, roles people love, leaders who keep getting better, and weekly meetings that actually happen.
“People do not quit companies. They quit how they get led on a Tuesday.”
Built on Purpose, in five parts.
Built on Purpose starts before the plan, with one question: why does this business exist?
Part One: The PlanDecide where it's going before you build.
One page: an end goal with a number and a date, and one bottleneck.
Part Two: PeopleStop hiring the first willing person with a pulse.
Build the role, train the person, and keep the people your business deserves.
Part Three: Winning the WorkGrowth is just people saying yes, at the right price.
A repeatable process built on reading the person across the table, not running a pitch, so closing is not all on your shoulders. Read people to serve them. Fill the pipeline on purpose, and stop feeding a broken machine with leads it cannot convert.
Part Four: Running Without YouHand it over, systematize it, and keep what it earns.
Get the business out of your head and onto paper, so it holds its standard whether or not you are on site.
Part Five: Against the GrainThe inner game of building on purpose.
Whatever you refuse to trust anyone else with becomes the exact height of your ceiling.
The tools inside Part Four
Inside the engagement, three tools serve this part: your books, AI, and software built around how you already work.
Your books, set up right. An owner who finds out what the month made three weeks after it ended.
You cannot manage a profit you can't see, and you cannot protect a margin you've never named.
We offer QuickBooks Online subscriptions and we help with the books, as far as you need us to.
A Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, not a generalist. Jacki Schulz, People Purpose's Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and registered CRA representative, does the setup and the training. Rod Penner scopes anything bigger.
AI that earns back the hours it costs. One workshop, then a written price to build.
A short workshop finds what is worth automating in your office: quoting, follow-up, the paperwork nobody wants to retype. What we build after that is scoped and priced in writing before we start.
Half a day with whoever actually does the work today: what eats the hours, which tasks are worth handing to a machine.
Software built around how you already work.Off-the-shelf software makes you work around it.
Don't automate your chaos. We write a spec around your business first, then build to it, one milestone at a time.
A written spec first, then a price to build it. A written spec: what the software has to do, for whom, and why, plus a rough build estimate broken into milestones. The spec itself is yours to keep.
Monthly growth consulting
Growth consulting is total business transformation.
This is not a course and not a peer group. It is one owner, one coach, and working sessions: decisions made together, priorities kept honest, and a growth plan that survives the busy season. You stay the owner: Rodney makes sure the business gets built.
Growth Partnership
A monthly base, plus a performance-based fee tied to the growth we create together. Both are agreed in writing before you start.
Part of what we earn depends on the growth you see, so we are pulling the same way.
Owners who have trusted People Purpose

"Rod gave us a repeatable hiring framework built for long-term success, for both employer and employee. The process takes longer than we were used to, but we can't argue with the results."
"I've dealt with many advisors over the years, but this experience stood out as truly exceptional... It wasn't just business strategy. It was purpose-driven counsel that honored God while driving real results."
"Very positive experience. Highly recommend working with Rod and his team."
Questions owners ask first.
What is a discovery call?
A short, honest conversation to see if working together makes sense. Not a sales call. If we are not the right fit, you will still leave with something useful. Book yours →
What does it cost?
We structure working sessions depending on the type of engagement you sign up for. The fee is set in the discovery call, and you will know it before you commit. Three-month minimum.
Where are you based?
Kleefeld, Manitoba, working with owners across the province and beyond. Most of the work happens over Teams and inside your real numbers. About us →
Do we need AI experience?
No. You bring the problem, we run the workshop and do the build.
Who owns what gets built?
You do. The code, the account and the data are yours.
Do I have to build with you?
No. The spec is yours to keep and take anywhere. We would rather write a spec that works for someone else than one that only works if we build it.
Do you maintain it after?
We can, quoted separately. Or we hand it off to whoever keeps your other systems running.
What happens to my history?
If you are moving from another system, we bring your history over and reconcile it to your last bank statement. A fresh start from an opening balance is often the better choice when the old books are not trusted, and we will tell you which fits once we have looked.
Do you keep the books after?
We set it up and train whoever keeps them. If you want them kept for you, ask, and we will tell you plainly whether we are the right fit.
